With half term in full swing, it can be something of a chore trying to think of fun and magical ways to liven up your kids’ week off school, particularly when the weather is not on your side.

What’s more, if you’re feeling a little selfish, there are plenty of activities in which you can let your kids run wild and free, giving you more time to put your feet up with a few games from Jackpot City. Whether you’re the indoors or outdoors type, check out these five great winter days out for the kids up and down the country.

Stockeld Park

Located in Wetherby, North Yorkshire, Stockeld Park offers adventures for families with all tastes. At present they’re in the midst of their ‘Halloween Adventure’, which gives the little ones the chance to take part in face painting, catwalk shows and even ice skating. If you can’t catch the Halloween events, head over to the fireworks events on 2nd November, or return at Christmas time when the park really comes alive with skiing, Santa’s Grotto and a gift emporium.

Snow Centre

Down in Hertfordshire, Hemel Hempstead has its very own answer to an expensive ski holiday. The Snow Centre is great for both kids and adults, offering a 160-metre indoor ski slope. If you’ve tried skiing before, you can buy lift passes for an hour, two hours or the whole day, while novices can also take ski lessons. What’s more, there’s a great bar for a warming hot chocolate afterwards.

Warwick Castle

This winter period, Warwick Castle is offering a guided tour through its ancient walls by torchlight. The tours will show families just how Christmas has been celebrated in the castle throughout history, starting with a wholesome glass of mulled wine and mince pies, before characters in costume take you through the state rooms and great halls.

Brecon Mountain Railway

This wonderful little Winter Wonderland in South Wales is not quite like any other Santa’s Grotto. Families can travel on the vintage steam train while gazing over the Brecon Beacons – make a fun game of it by looking out for red kites along the way. Plus a special bonus for those selfish mums – even parents get presents!

Museum of Science and Industry

Head northwest this winter period for some family fun in the form of the Museum of Science and Industry in Manchester. Right now they’re putting on the Manchester Science Festival, in which mums, dads and kids can see great installations, experimental theatre and wondrous exhibitions.
